Flashback to when Bartolo was a youth of 12 years or so when puberty hit and Bartolo began to throw 75 MPH BB's in every direction. It probably didn't take to many bean balls for him to realize how dangerous he really was. From this, an issue developed in his head about going inside, and since his stuff worked so well, he adjusted his game easily. Its issues like this that have gotten between the ears of Bartolo and keep him from true super-stardom.
Will he someday rise above the mental demons that prevent him from being a consistent winner?

in my opinion, it isn't an unwillingness to throw inside that is preventing bart from attaining the next level: it's simply his control, or lack of it. he can't paint the corners. He walked 3.7 per 9 innings last year and that won't get it done. (Note: Schilling walked 1.4)
additionally, he seems unwilling or unable to study the hitters and work their weaknesses. he still seems to think he can just blow it by 'em.
The studying of hitters he can work on. The control, maybe he can't. I think that control is to a large extent something you have or you don't.
it just may be that this is as good as bart gets. And you know what? that's not bad. If we can EVER get a true #1, then bart becomes one of the best #2 guys in the league.

Personally I think he overthrows when he has 2 strikes on the guy hoping to get the strikeout. That is what I believe is his problem. If you see when he is on, he has great movement on his fastballs and paints the corners like a madman. But sometimes if he doesn't have the movement, he starts trying to overthrow and as a result doesn't put it in the zone.

Motivation has to in there someplace.
He always seems to chuck better when against pedro or some other big game (Game 1 & 4 of playoffs (he was still awesome in game 4 - just left in too long)).
Has anyone got any stats to prove or disprove ? Is his walk rate better in the big games ?

Three different theories/observations...all sound pretty good to me.
